Agnes D. Derr

Agnes D. Derr, 97, of Grand Island, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Skilled Care Unit of the St Francis Medical Center.

   Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.  The Rev. Jay Vetter will officiate.

   Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

   Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 to greet friends.

   Mrs. Derr was born on December 23, 1912 at Giltner, Nebraska to Thomas and Lizzie (Detamore) Salmon.

   Survivors of the immediate family include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Norma) Derr of Grand Island; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nadean Seymour of Grand Island, and Lynda (Terry) Garver of Hastings.

   Additional survivors include 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-great grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Betty Derr of Giltner.

   Mrs. Derr received her education in Giltner.

   She married Elmer Derr on January 4, 1928 in Smith Center, Kansas.  The couple lived in Grand Island, before moving to the Giltner area.  In 1947, they returned to Grand Island.  Mrs. Derr was employed at Kaufman’s Department Store, the Conoco Café, and then worked for over 11 years at Delicious Foods in Grand Island.  She retired in 1976.

   She loved to sew, grow flowers and produce, and to can vegetables.

   Mrs. Derr was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and a member of the ladies social group in the Giltner area.

   She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; a son, Eugene Derr, a grandson, Bradley Garver; a great-granddaughter; her brother, A.F. (Shorty) Salmon; a son-in-law, John Seymour Jr.; a half-sister, Mildred Cline; and a half-brother, Clyde Detamore.
